Since 3 August 2011 Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare, when the Ministry of Cooperatives, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, and the Ministry of Welfare and Social Security were merged into one ministry. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs had existed since the pre-revolutionary era. The Ministry of Cooperatives had been established in 1991 under President Rafsanjani. The Ministry of Welfare and Social Security had been established in 2004 under President Khatami.
